On a habeas corpus petition by widow \[name withheld\] for her son \[name withheld\], the Punjab and Haryana High Court found the detenu confined at Police Station Sidhwan Bet with no roznamcha entry and no registered case, as reported by the court's Warrant Officer on 27 August 1983. The court held there was great divergence between the police officers' versions and that ASI 's explanation was false on its face. It granted the detenu bail in FIR No. 51 of 1982, left him free to seek medical examination and proceed against the culprits over his allegation of severe beating by a constable, and ordered ASI to personally pay Rs 3,000 compensation for the illegal detention.
