The Supreme Court (B.C. Ray, J.) held the 9-year-old son of one of two tenant women was done to death by beating and assault by SHO Lal Singh, and directed Delhi Administration to pay the mother 75,000 compensation within four weeks, recoverable from officers found responsible. The Court relied on the Crime Branch Inspector's report (finding police conspiracy with the landlords who wanted the Anand Parbat rooms vacated) and the DCP's counter-affidavit admitting the SHO took part in the beating; the child's grievous leg injury caused fever and pneumonitis resulting in death, and a criminal case (first 308/34, altered to 304/34 IPC) was registered.
