The Court held the counter-affidavits denying custody, proved false by DGP, District Judge and CBI inquiries, made out offences under Section 193 IPC and, for SP, criminal contempt. It sentenced \[name withheld\] to one year's RI plus six months for contempt (concurrent), the SI to six months and the ASI to three months, and directed the DGP to take them into custody. Later proceedings: on 27 October 1999, the Supreme Court of India set aside the conviction/order concerning \[name withheld\]; on 6 January 2000, the Supreme Court of India set aside the conviction/order concerning \[name withheld\]; the findings against the remaining officers stand as recorded in this judgment.
