The High Court found that the Sub-Inspector of Vissannapeta Police Station unlawfully detained 70-year-old a Vissannapeta man from 29 October 1996 to 31 October 1996 without registering any crime. The detention was executed to pressure a Vissannapeta man regarding a civil loan dispute involving his son. Based on a CID enquiry report and witness testimonies confirming the illegal confinement, the Court held that the officer had violated Article 21 and directed the Sub-Inspector to personally pay Rs 6,000 compensation to the detenu.
