The judgment of the Bombay High Court records the following account. Inderjitsingh Chauhan was arrested by Pusad police on 24.10.2003 and died in police custody; a three-doctor panel post-mortem showed antemortem injuries and CID registered ss.302/201 IPC against ten police personnel. His mother and brother sought Rs.10 lakh compensation under Article 226. The court held the custodial death established and awarded Rs.5,00,000 compensation to the heirs, with liberty to the State to recover from the erring officers.
