The judgment of the Kerala High Court records the following account. On 12 February 1988, following critical reports against the SP Kannur, police picked up a Kannur man, Editor, Printer and Publisher of the evening daily Sudhinam, from Fort Road, Kannur, and confined him in the Kannur Town lock-up from 8.30 p.m. till production at 4.30 a.m. despite bailable offences and offered sureties; the same night police broke open the Sudhinam office and Jyothi Printing Press, dismantled machinery and posted a picket. The CBI charge-sheeted 12 police personnel; the trial court convicted four and the appellate court retained only the Sections 342 and 427 convictions of accused Nos.2 and 3. In revision the High Court held the detention was wrongful confinement and the search unjustified, dismissed both revisions, and confirmed imprisonment till rising of court with Rs.25,000 compensation each under Section 357(3) CrPC, while confirming acquittals on conspiracy and assault charges. Matters not addressed in the cited judgment text are not recorded here.

> I find no reason to interfere with the conviction recorded by both the trial court as well as the appellate court against the revision petitioners under Section 342 of I.P.C.
