The Delhi High Court dismissed the appeal of Delhi Police constable Surender Singh and upheld his conviction for shooting dead civilian a Mayur Vihar, Delhi man with his service SAF carbine inside PS Mayur Vihar on 30 June 2002, also injuring woman head constable The Court held eyewitness police testimony and ballistic linkage proved he chased the deceased into the reporting room firing repeatedly, rejecting his claim of an accidental discharge during a scuffle as a version never put to the eyewitnesses. It imputed knowledge for the Section 307 conviction since he fired indiscriminately knowing persons were in the room, and sustained the sentences of life imprisonment and seven years' rigorous imprisonment, noting life was the least penalty.
