The judgment of the Madras High Court records the following account. Woman Sub-Inspector challenged the SHRC recommendation of Rs.15,000 compensation to a Madurai woman, recoverable from her salary, for detaining a Madurai woman for four days at Thallakulam police station and beating her with a lathi during a 2003 murder investigation. The court found that she had clearly violated the Supreme Court's D.K. Basu directives, including the bar on bringing women to the station for enquiry and detaining them after sunset. Following earlier authority upholding identical SHRC-plus-recovery orders, the court dismissed the writ petition with no costs. Matters not addressed in the cited judgment text are not recorded here.

> The petitioner had clearly violated the directives of the Supreme Court in D.K. Basu v. State of W.B., reported in (1997) 1 SCC 416.
