The Supreme Court (Harjit Singh Bedi, J.) dismissed the appeals of ten Delhi Police Crime Branch officials and upheld their life sentences for the Connaught Place fake encounter of 31 March 1997. Tracking wanted criminal Mohd. Yaseen, Inspector mistook bearded businessman \[name withheld\] for him; two police parties surrounded the victims' Maruti Esteem at the Barakhamba Road red light and fired 34 shots, killing two occupants and grievously injuring the third. The CBI exposed the cover-up — no shot was fired from inside the car, the 7.65mm pistol was planted, and the policemen's injuries came from police cross-fire — and the Court held the firing was with common intention to annihilate the occupants, spurred by hopes of reward and promotion, rejecting self-defence, superior-orders, sanction and Section 140 Delhi Police Act pleas. Matters not addressed in the cited judgment text are not recorded here.

> On an overall view of the evidence in the case and in the light of the arguments raised by the learned counsel for the parties, we find no fault with the judgments of the trial court as well as the High Court. We, accordingly, dismiss all these appeals.
