The Gujarat High Court confirmed the ACB trap convictions of Langnaj police station PSI and Constable, who demanded Rs 2,000 from complainant \[name withheld\] to spare his father arrest and holiday detention in a Section 498-A case and were trapped on 18.06.1991 accepting the balance, anthracene stains being found on the PSI's hand. The Court held demand and voluntary acceptance proved, rejected the false-implication defence, and observed that police officers indulging in corrupt practice by threatening custody were entitled to no benefit of doubt. The appeal was dismissed, the convictions and 2-year RI sentences confirmed, bail bonds cancelled and the appellants directed to surrender within four weeks.
