The judgment of the Karnataka High Court records the following account. The appellant, S.B. Muniyappa, serving as Police Sub-Inspector at Vivek Nagar Police Station in Bengaluru, demanded a bribe of Rs 1,50,000 and accepted Rs 25,000 from the complainant to settle a cheque bounce dispute without registering a criminal case. Following a trap and investigation, the Special Court convicted him under Sections 7 and 13(1)(d) read with Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
