On 10 March 2014 the Gujarat High Court allowed the State appeal against acquittal and convicted a Gambhoi police-station writer for taking a bribe to weaken a criminal case against the complainant party. The court held that the Special Judge had wrongly doubted demand, finding that the accused unexplained presence at Ambika Hotel, the anthracene-marked fingertips and pocket, and recovery of the tainted Rs.900 proved demand and acceptance beyond reasonable doubt. It quashed the 1999 acquittal, convicted him under sections 7 and 13(1)(d) read with 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and imposed one year rigorous imprisonment with fine on each count to run concurrently.
