The judgment of the Madras High Court records the following account. DVAC Dharmapuri charge-sheeted Tamil Nadu cadre officer, who rose from DSP to Inspector General of Police, Salem Zone, for holding about Rs.33.58 lakh in assets disproportionate to his known income during the check period 01.01.1998-30.06.2001. The Special Court for Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Cases, Madurai convicted him on 30.03.2012 under section 13(2) read with 13(1)(e) of the PC Act, 1988, sentencing him to 3 years rigorous imprisonment and a Rs.10,000 fine, while acquitting four family co-accused. He appealed in 2012, died during pendency, and his widow \[name withheld\] was substituted on 26.11.2014 to continue the appeal. On 19.06.2020 the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court held the prosecution had proved the disproportion beyond reasonable doubt and confirmed the conviction, though the custodial sentence stood abated on the appellant's death. Matters not addressed in the cited judgment text are not recorded here.

> A careful reading of the grounds of the appeal and also the submissions made by both the counsel and also a careful reading of the oral and documentary evidence, this court is of the view that the trial Court has rightly appreciated evidence of the prosecution and rejected the defence of the appellant and come to the conclusion that the appellant has committed the offences under Sections 13(2) r/w 13(i)(e) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and rightly convicted and sentenced him to undergo a rigourous imprisonment of 3 years and also imposed a fine of Rs.10,000/-, in default to undergo 3 months simple imprisonment and also found out that there is no material to convict the other accused.
