The Telangana High Court dismissed the appeal of Traffic Inspector Gangireddy Rami Reddy, then in charge of Mattewada police station, confirming one year rigorous imprisonment on each PC Act count. The Court found he had detained a lorry and its driver in the station for nine days after a road accident without producing either before a magistrate, and demanded Rs 8,000 from the lorry owner for their release. The ACB Warangal trap of 29 July 2000 succeeded when he took the tainted notes into his table drawer and his right-hand wash tested positive. It held the unexplained detention corroborated the demand, rejected the planted-money defence, and sustained the Special Court judgment. An SLP against the judgment was filed in the Supreme Court in January 2023. Matters not addressed in the cited judgment text are not recorded here.

> The presence of the lorry and driver in the police station indicates that the appellant, who was in charge of the police station had detained the lorry and P.W.8 for a period of eight days without following due procedure under Code of Criminal Procedure. In the said circumstances, the claim of P.W.1 that the appellant demanded amount is believable. It cannot be said that a false complaint was made against the appellant.
