The Jharkhand High Court (Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi, J.) held a Lesliganj man was a victim of custodial violence who died in police custody. The OIC-led party had seized him from his home at Lukuwa on 9 September 2014 when his son was absent; photographs and the post-mortem showed multiple injuries, fortifying that death was due to police torture and highhandedness with a concocted suicide story in a perfunctory final form. The Court held Article 21 violated, awarded Rs. 5,00,000 compensation within four weeks recoverable from the erring officers (without precluding civil/criminal remedies), and directed the DGP Jharkhand to reopen and reinvestigate the case against the erring officials. Matters not addressed in the cited judgment text are not recorded here.

> The death has occurred due to torture and highhandedness of the police and concocted story of suicide has been made out by the police.
