The judgment of the Supreme Court of India records the following account. On 30 June 2002, Delhi Police constable, posted as guard at Mayur Vihar Police Station, sprayed carbine fire inside the station while on duty, killing his relative a Mayur Vihar man over a personal motive and injuring a lady head constable. Convicted under Sections 302 and 307 IPC, he lost his appeal before the Delhi High Court in 2011. The Supreme Court termed it a brazen murder, rejected pleas of self-defence and grave-and-sudden provocation, dismissed the appeal and upheld the life sentence.

> By no stretch of logic is it a case of any lesser magnitude, and definitely not culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
