The judgment of the Kerala High Court records the following account. Advocate an Alathur man complained that Sub-Inspector V. R. Raneesh of Alathur Police Station insulted him with abusive language and expletives and threatened physical abuse when he visited the station to comply with a Magistrate's order, in violation of the Court's earlier directions against derogatory police language. The officer tendered an apology and submitted to the contempt jurisdiction. Justice Devan Ramachandran convicted him of criminal contempt, imposed two months' simple imprisonment suspended for one year on condition of good conduct, and said the sentence should be an example to all officers.
