The judgment of the Karnataka High Court records the following account. KSRP Head Constable contracted a first marriage in 1999 and a second marriage with Nagarathna on 12 March 2006 while the first subsisted, without divorce (obtained later in 2007) or government permission. The enquiry proved the charge on the first wife's evidence plus the kalyana mantap receipt and invitation card. The Commandant dismissed him; the appellate authority substituted reduction of pay to the minimum of the PC scale for five years, affirmed in revision and by the KSAT. The Division Bench held the bigamy charge proved on preponderance of probabilities, ruled acquittal in the Section 498A criminal case immaterial, noted the 2001 circular prescribes compulsory retirement so the pay-cut was lenient, and rejected the writ petition as without merit.
