The judgment of the Supreme Court of India records the following account. \[name withheld\] was appointed a Delhi Police constable in 1988, but a 1996 complaint revealed the appointment rested on a forged degree certificate, leading to his dismissal in 1997 without a full-fledged inquiry. The courts below interfered with the dismissal and remanded the matter for a full departmental inquiry. The Supreme Court held that appointment in the uniformed police service on a forged certificate is uncondonable, the forgery stood wholly unrebutted, and no full inquiry was needed; the appeal was allowed and the dismissal restored.
