The judgment of the Jharkhand High Court records the following account. A Chainpur man was detained on 1 December 2025 without an FIR or any criminal case against him and subjected to brutal physical torture within the premises of Chainpur Police Station, Gumla. An inquiry by the SDPO confirmed the illegal detention and custodial beating, leading to the suspension of the Officer-in-Charge. The Division Bench of the Jharkhand High Court condemned the cowardly torture in police custody and directed the State of Jharkhand to pay Rs. 1,00,000 in interim compensation to the victim, with express directions that the amount be recovered from the erring police officials.
