The judgment of the Madras High Court records the following account. A Chennai man was picked up for interrogation around 11 p.m. on 11.03.2016 and subjected to custodial violence; he died on 12.06.2016, with the question whether the violence was the proximate cause of death left open. The Tamil Nadu SHRC took suo-motu cognizance on 13.03.2016, held custodial violence established on evidence, and awarded Rs.2 lakh on 12.12.2019, which the State never challenged. His mother \[name withheld\] sought enhancement before the Madras High Court. On 06.06.2025 a Division Bench recorded proved custodial violence and, by consent, raised total compensation to Rs.5 lakh (Rs.3 lakh additional from the Home Department), leaving FIR No.1130/2016 under section 174 CrPC and recovery from erring officials to proceed independently. Matters not addressed in the cited judgment text are not recorded here.

> Therefore, we refrain from dilating on facts and we deem it appropriate to write that it will suffice to say that this is a case of established / proved custodial violence.
