The Supreme Court transferred the investigation into the custodial death of \[name withheld\] to the CBI, directing that police officials found responsible be arrested within one month. The Court found that \[name withheld\] was subjected to brutal third-degree torture including hanging upside down, chilli powder, petrol, salt, and hot water, leading to his death. The sole eyewitness \[name withheld\] was illegally detained for over 24 hours and subsequently implicated in multiple false cases to coerce him. The Court observed that the local police investigation lacked credibility as allegations were against their own personnel, and even the post-mortem appeared influenced.

> The involvement of the police officials in the custodial death of \[name withheld\] is clearly borne out from the statement of the sole eye-witness \[name withheld\] and stands further corroborated during the magisterial inquiry. The victims' family tried to lodge the FIR immediately after the incident, but the local police officials prevented them from doing so. It is only after the magisterial inquiry was conducted that the FIR came to be registered wherein the offence of culpable homicide amounting to murder was omitted. Nearly eight months have passed since the FIR was registered but till date, not a single accused has been arrested.
