The High Court recorded that police of P.S. The Investigating Officer told the court he went to the house on the SHO's direction. Call records and CCTV footage corroborated the detention; no CCTV footage for 26.06.2026 was produced. The court held the man was in unlawful custody for at least four days, that he was held to pressure his brother to surrender, and awarded Rs. 40,000 compensation to be recovered from the salaries of those responsible. It directed that its displeasure with the SHO and the Investigating Officer be recorded in their service records.

> The police cannot resort to pressure tactics to compel the actual offender to surrender before it by unlawfully detaining an innocent member of his family who has no connection with the alleged offence.
