## Summary

The City Civil and Sessions Court, Greater Bombay (Judge Shridhar S.M. Bhosale), in Sessions Case SC 309/2014, on Saturday 30 January 2016 convicted four Vanrai (Goregaon) police constables — Chandrakant Kamble, Kiran Pingle, Umesh Gosavi and one more — for torturing 20-year-old theft suspect \[name withheld\] to death in custody on the night of 26 October 2013 (56 injuries; post-mortem: head injury with multiple injuries), sentencing each to 7 years RI plus Rs.10,000 fine under IPC ss.304-II and 330; the first custodial-death conviction in Maharashtra, secured after appointment of special PP Rati Amrolia. Convicts' appeals (Crl A. 236/241/250 of 2016) and the victim family's appeals (271/2016, 243/2018) were still pending before the Bombay High Court as of 24 July 2025 (stood over to 25-09-2025).
