The CBI press release dated 13.03.2006 states that Special Judge (CBI) Shri A.R. Joshi, Greater Mumbai convicted Inspector, an Intelligence Bureau officer on deputation as Inspector, CBI SCB Mumbai, sentencing him to five years RI with Rs.50,000 fine each under s.7 and s.13(2) r/w s.13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act (concurrent), after he was caught red-handed accepting a Rs.1 lakh bribe on 20.04.2003 from an accused in a CBI case he was investigating. The release, issued in CBI's drive against corruption within its own ranks, records that Rai was chargesheeted 26.07.2003, convicted 03.02.2005, and has since been dismissed from service.
