Four accused granted bail in case concerning political leaflets
Four people were arrested in connection with a case concerning political-party leaflets carrying allegedly provocative remarks against a particular person. The case was registered under BNS Sections 152, 175, 196, 197, 353 and 61(2). The Gauhati High Court granted each accused bail on a bond of Rs 30,000 with one surety of the same amount.

How we verify →The High Court granted the four accused bail while the investigation remained pending.
What happened
The High Court recorded that the accused were arrested in connection with Dispur P.S. Case No. 135/2026, registered under Sections 152/175/196/197/353/61(2) of BNS, 2023.
Defence counsel submitted that police found a truck parked at a residential complex carrying political-party leaflets with provocative slogans. The Additional Public Prosecutor submitted that a good quantity of leaflets had been seized during the investigation.
After examining the case diary, the High Court recorded that the two leaflets produced before it were the only two leaflets seized by police and that they contained remarks against a particular person.
The High Court found that the seized material could not, at that stage of the investigation, be regarded as containing remarks endangering India's sovereignty so as to attract Section 152 BNS. It also noted that no public disorder had been reported and granted bail subject to cooperation with the investigation, non-interference with witnesses and a restriction on leaving the jurisdiction without permission.
