What this record means

This page records what the cited court records and reports say happened. Findings belong to the court or authority that made them; this register adds none of its own. Names of private individuals are withheld unless a naming gate clears them.

How we verify →

The seal is to be removed for possession, but the premises must not be used as a prayer hall without District Collector permission.

What happened

The High Court recorded that the pastor ran a trust established in 2007 and held regular prayer meetings with relatives and neighbours on property purchased in January 2023.

The High Court recorded that after a complaint, the Kodavasal police held an enquiry, building permission for a church was rejected, and the Tahsildar issued a notice directing closure of the prayer house within 10 days failing which action would follow.

The District Collector said, according to the judgment, that a prayer hall could not be run without proper permission and that meetings caused disturbance to neighbours.

The High Court held that a house cannot as a matter of right be used as a prayer hall for large congregations without permission, and that the undertaking to avoid loudspeakers was insufficient.

The High Court directed removal of the seal to restore possession but barred use as a prayer hall without permission and left it open to authorities to proceed in accordance with law on reuse.

What the record says

“The property shall not be utilised as a prayer hall for conducting prayer meetings and if the petitioner intends to convert the property into a prayer hall, the petitioner is directed to approach the District Collector and seek for permission.”

Punished for a freedom

What we could not confirm

No 2026 official record of punishment for peaceful worship alone was found; neighbour disturbance was alleged by the Collector but no violence, force or fraud finding was made. Exact sealing date beyond the January 2024 notice was not stated in the judgment.
