Sealed godown on purchased village land ordered to be unsealed
The Ranchi Regional Development Authority ordered demolition and sealing of a GCI-sheet godown on purchased land at Sidroll, Namkum, alleging that RRDA approval had not been obtained. The owner, who had received construction permission from the Gram Panchayat in 2011, challenged the orders. The Jharkhand High Court quashed the orders on 14 November 2025 and directed that the property be unsealed.

What happened
The High Court recorded that the petitioner purchased land and the structure standing on it by registered sale deed dated 3 October 2008 at village Sidroll, under Thana Namkum, Khata No. 27, Plot Nos. 1145 and 1146 in Ranchi district.
The High Court recorded that the petitioner received permission from the Gram Panchayat on 12 January 2011 and thereafter constructed a GCI-sheet godown, while the development authority later alleged that no prior RRDA approval had been obtained.
The High Court recorded that the Vice-Chairman directed deployment of police force on 14 March 2022 to ensure that the godown was sealed and that the building was consequently sealed.
The High Court held that RRDA lacked jurisdiction in the Panchayat-governed area, quashed the 19 January 2022 order in U.C. Case No. 169/2021 and the 28 March 2022 appellate order in Misc. Appeal Case No. 07 of 2022, and directed that the Sidroll property be unsealed.
