How we verify →

HPMC is a state-controlled fruit marketing and processing company headquartered in Shimla. The CAG's Report No. 1 of 2025, issued on 7 July 2025, reported negative net worth of Rs 52.43 crore in its latest finalised FY2022-23 accounts, placing it in the sick category used for this inventory.

What happened

HPMC's official website says it was incorporated on 10 June 1974 with World Bank financial assistance to provide post-harvest facilities, market fresh fruit and process surplus fruit. It continues to market juices, concentrates, jams, pickles, wines and related products.

The CAG's 2025 State Finances Audit Report records FY2022-23 paid-up capital of Rs 38.77 crore, GoHP equity of Rs 31.20 crore and other equity of Rs 7.57 crore; those accounts were finalised during 2024-25.

The same CAG report records accumulated losses of Rs 91.20 crore and negative net worth of Rs 52.43 crore. It also reports a Rs 60.09 crore state-government loan as of 31 March 2024.

HPMC's official contact page locates its corporate and head office on the third floor of Nigam Vihar, Shimla.

What we could not confirm

The CAG report supplies capital, accumulated-loss and net-worth figures but not FY2022-23 revenue, annual net profit/loss or manpower in the cited appendix; those figures are therefore unavailable. The percentages are arithmetic conversions of the CAG's reported Rs 31.20 crore and Rs 7.57 crore equity amounts, rounded to two decimals. No official disinvestment or closure decision was found, so on_the_block is false and HPMC is classified solely by its negative net worth.
