What happened

Southern Railway's official page says it was created on 14 April 1951 by merging the Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway, the South Indian Railway Company and the Mysore State Railway.

The official page places its headquarters in Chennai and says its network covers Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, and parts of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

A Ministry of Railways manual classifies zonal railways as subordinate offices and lists Southern Railway with Chennai as its headquarters.

What we could not confirm

The official Southern Railway page gives its headquarters office as Park Town, Chennai 600003, but not a street address. The opened official pages did not provide FY2024-25 or FY2025-26 zonal revenue, surplus or staff totals.
