How we verify →

The 20 shops had been penalised, but the official report did not disclose the amounts or any later proceedings.

What happened

Nagaland DIPR said the National Tobacco Control Programme, Phek, and a block enforcement squad conducted an enforcement drive near educational institutions in Chozuba on 8 September 2026.

DIPR identified the participating public authorities as the district administration and police personnel, alongside Dobashis and local organisations.

DIPR reported that 20 shops found violating Section 6(b) of COTPA 2003 were penalised.

The official report did not identify any sale to a particular minor, complaining victim, counterfeit product or smuggled cigarette.

What the record says

“During the conduct, 20 shops found violating were penalised under section 6(b) of COTPA 2003 (Prohibition of Sale of Tobacco Products to Minors or by Minors).”

No complaining victim

The reported conduct was selling or stocking lawful tobacco products in a prohibited area. The official account identifies no injured or complaining person.

What we could not confirm

The official report does not specify each shop, the products seized, the penalty amounts or whether the alleged violation was proximity to an educational institution or sale to or by minors. A 21 September 2026 Dimapur seizure report was newer, but only a news report was found, so it did not satisfy the official-source requirement.
