Conviction
ConcludedThe trial court convicted the accused police personnel, as recorded in the Calcutta High Court judgment.
The judgment of the Calcutta High Court records the following account. Police arrested several persons on suspicion of murdering Mussamut Dhuri; two constables openly used violence on the prisoners and illegally detained them beyond the lawful period to obtain confessions which proved false, while Head Constable, in charge of the investigation, remained in their constant company. The Sessions Judge convicted all three under Section 330 IPC. The High Court upheld all convictions, holding [name withheld] an accomplice in the assaults and illegal detention, and, acting in revision, enhanced his sentence from four months simple to six months rigorous imprisonment while dismissing the constables' appeals. District and victim identities are not stated in the report (Bengal Presidency).
