Conviction
ConcludedThe trial court convicted the accused police personnel, as recorded in the Gujarat High Court judgment.
The Gujarat High Court maintained the corruption conviction of PSI of Odhav police station, caught in an ACB decoy trap on the night of 18/19 October 1985 extorting truck drivers on highways around Ahmedabad city. The Court rejected defences of false trap, panch contradictions and defective sanction, holding the Rs 20 bribe-taking proved by ultraviolet-lamp anthracene marks. While maintaining conviction under Section 161 IPC and Sections 5(1)(d)/5(2) of the 1947 PC Act, it cut the sentence from one year's RI to 10 days' RI given the petty amount and two decades' lapse, retaining the Rs 100 fine with surrender by 1 November 2006.
