a 13-year-old girl, a 13-year-old Gond tribal girl, was seized from her home at midnight in 1990, hanged from a tree in the Keshori forest and beaten unconscious, then illegally detained for years with her arrest recorded only in 1993 and falsely implicated in three serious cases including under TADA, all ending in acquittal by the Juvenile Court for want of evidence. The Court rejected the State's cover-up, holding the detention, torture and false prosecution corroborated and monitored with senior officers' tacit consent. It ordered the State to pay Rs 5 lakh compensation plus Rs 10,000 costs within four weeks. It further directed a DIG-led Special Investigation Team of the State CID, including a lady SP, to fix responsibility, prosecute the guilty officers and recover the compensation, with an action-taken report in six months.
