ConcludedThe Madras High Court recorded adverse findings against police personnel and ordered Rs 300,000.
The judgment of the Madras High Court records the following account. A Paramakudi woman, a domestic worker taken into Paramakudi police custody for interrogation in a theft case (Cr. No. 455/2002), was found hanging at the wireless tower behind the station on 1 December 2002; the post-mortem showed ante-mortem injuries and the DSPs own counter regarded it as a custodial death. The RDO enquiry under PSO 151 found fault but led only to a Section 306 IPC private complaint (S.C. No. 105/2007). The court held the sequence and medical evidence revealed tell-tale custodial violence, expressed displeasure at the handling, stayed the sessions trial, directed a DSP-led CB-CID reinvestigation with final report in six months, and ordered Rs.3 lakhs compensation to the husband and daughter within four weeks.
