Conviction
ConcludedThe trial court convicted the accused police personnel, as recorded in the Supreme Court of India judgment.
The judgment of the Supreme Court of India records the following account. An Indar man was illegally picked up and detained at Indar Police Station, Shivpuri, from October 8 to 11, 1983, where police personnel subjected him to horrific torture, including electric shocks to his scrotum, to extort a confession in a theft case. The victim sustained severe injuries and a resultant fatal brain haemorrhage, succumbing shortly after being dumped outside. Although the trial court acquitted the accused policemen, the Madhya Pradesh High Court reversed the acquittal and convicted all five police personnel under Sections 304 Part II and 330 IPC, sentencing them to five years rigorous imprisonment. The Supreme Court dismissed their appeals, affirming that an Indar man's death was a direct consequence of inexcusable and inhuman police torture.
