CW-2014-0006Imphal East, ManipurJudgment 9 September 2014

Lambui Lambi Man & Anr. v. State of Manipur & Ors.

The judgment of the Manipur High Court records the following account. On the evening of 14 October 2008, cousins a Lambui Lambi man and a Lambui Lambi man went out on a Kinetic Honda and were picked up near LMS Law College; that night TV news showed both killed in an encounter at Lambui Lambi with a planted pistol and revolver. The High Court accepted the District Judge (Manipur East) inquiry finding that both men were killed by Manipur Police Commandos in a fake encounter with no exchange of fire, disbelieving the firing-while-riding story on ballistic and post-mortem evidence. It allowed both widows' petitions and awarded Rs 5,00,000 to each (Rs 10,00,000 total) within four months. Matters not addressed in the cited judgment text are not recorded here.
