ConcludedThe Manipur High Court recorded adverse findings against police personnel and ordered Rs 500,000.
A Division Bench of the Manipur High Court held that an Imphal man, a 34-year-old sales executive, was killed in cold blood by Manipur Police Commando personnel at his residence at Keishamthong on 29 March 2008 and not in an encounter, accepting the District Judge's enquiry report. The police version of an exchange of fire was inconsistent with the evidence, which showed he was shot after falling and a pistol planted beside his hand while another commando fired in the air to scare the family. Finding a fake encounter by State police with no encounter between the deceased and the commandos, the court awarded Rs 5,00,000 compensation payable within four months.
