Order issued
ConcludedThe Manipur High Court recorded adverse findings against police personnel and ordered Rs 500,000.
The judgment of the Manipur High Court records the following account. On 4 November 2008, a Yen-kao-bung, Kameng man, 35, telephoned his wife that Manipur Police Commandos had apprehended him at Wahengbam Leikai; that evening TV news showed him killed in an encounter at Yen-kao-bung, Kameng, with a planted grenade, and branded a KCP(MC) militant. The High Court accepted the District Judge (Manipur East) inquiry finding that there was no encounter and held he was killed by the commandos while in their custody under cover of a staged encounter. It allowed the widow's petition and awarded Rs 5,00,000 compensation within three months. Note: the court-site PDF link was unreachable at verification; the text was verified on the mirror.
