Conviction
ConcludedThe trial court convicted the accused police personnel, as recorded in the Delhi High Court judgment.
The Division Bench upheld murder and wrongful-confinement convictions of four AATS (North-East) policemen for torturing a Delhi man to death. Picked up from his New Seelampur home in the early hours of 11 March 1992, he was kept in wholly unauthorised captivity, beaten over six days, and dumped critically injured at a private nursing home on 16 March 1992; he died on 17 March 1992. The court held the chain of circumstances complete and drew the custodial-death burden against the policemen, upholding Sections 302/34 and 342/34 while setting aside only the Section 330/34 count for want of extortion purpose. The convicts were directed to surrender within 15 days, and compensation to the next of kin under Section 357-A CrPC was recommended to DSLSA.
