Conviction
ConcludedThe trial court convicted the accused police personnel, as recorded in the Telangana High Court judgment.
The judgment of the Telangana High Court records the following account. Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police Saduq Ali of Balanagar Police Station detained a scrap dealer and his father in March 2000, threatening them with false implication in a theft case unless scrap metals and a bribe of Rs 50,000 were paid. After releasing the complainant, the officer demanded an immediate installment of Rs 20,000 and visited the scrap shop to collect the sum. On 22 March 2000, the Anti-Corruption Bureau laid a trap at the shop, catching the appellant red-handed upon receiving the bribe amount. The Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases, Hyderabad, convicted him under Sections 7 and 13(1)(d) read with 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, sentencing him to two years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000. The High Court affirmed the conviction based on consistent testimony from subordinate constables and mediators, reducing the sentence of imprisonment to one year while leaving the fine undisturbed.
