ConcludedThe Delhi High Court entered convictions against police personnel in this judgment.
The Delhi High Court reversed the 2015 Tis Hazari acquittals and convicted 16 UP Provincial Armed Constabulary personnel of murder and conspiracy for the Hashimpura massacre of 22 May 1987, sentencing each to life imprisonment. The Court found that about 42 Muslim men rounded up at Hashimpura, Meerut, during communal riots were trucked to the Gangnahar canal, shot dead, and their bodies dumped. It termed the massacre a targeted killing of unarmed and defenceless people by the police, relying on survivor testimony and PAC records after the case was transferred to Delhi. Appeals against the convictions are pending before the Supreme Court, which has granted bail to some convicts.
