Two tenants were called to the local police station on 9 March 2022, held for about 24 hours, and coerced to sign vacation documents while their premises were demolished by the vendor family with local police support. Their Section 156(3) complaints were sent for registration by the Sessions Court and sustained by the High Court. During Supreme Court proceedings the tenants settled with the private purchasers for Rs. 10 lakh each. The Court held continuance of the complaints futile but refused to let the six named police personnel go scot-free given their apparent role in conspiring and abetting the detention, coercion and demolition, imposing graded personal costs totalling Rs. 6 lakh per case to the Armed Forces Battle Casualties Welfare Fund as a condition for quashing.
