ConcludedThe Patna High Court recorded adverse findings against police personnel and ordered Rs 200,000.
The Patna High Court held that Jehanabad police illegally detained a Jehanabad woman, picked up from her home on 29 April 2025 and lodged in a shelter home for about five days, and a Jehanabad man, picked up as a suspect on 1 May 2025, without arrest memos, family intimation or production before a Magistrate. The Court found the detentions without any sanction of law and in violation of BNSS procedure and the D.K. Basu safeguards, with the State conceding it had no convincing defence. It awarded Rs 1,00,000 to each victim payable by the State within thirty days, recoverable from the salaries of the three erring officers, and directed the DGP to issue arrest and detention guidelines. A third detenue already in lawful judicial custody was excluded from relief. Matters not addressed in the cited judgment text are not recorded here.
