ConcludedThe Madras High Court recorded adverse findings against police personnel and ordered Rs 500,000.
The judgment of the Madras High Court records the following account. A Thiruppuvanam man was picked up after midnight on 26.07.2010 by SI and HC of Thiruppuvanam Police Station, brutally beaten in custody, released the same night, and admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai with internal injuries. The officers then foisted a sand-theft case (Crime No.283/2010) on him, which ended in acquittal in C.C. No.240/2019; a DSP enquiry and departmental proceedings recorded custodial torture against the two officers, though the punishment was later recalled without stated reason. On 15.05.2025 the Madurai Bench held the departmental enquiry finding still holds good, ordered the two officers to personally pay Rs.5 lakh compensation (Rs.2.5 lakh each) within two weeks, and directed the DGP to decide afresh through an IG-rank officer whether the punishment is sustainable, listing compliance on 02.12.2025.
