The judgment of the Kerala High Court records the following account. Entrusted with complainant [name withheld]'s property-dispute complaint, ASI (Grade) [name withheld] of Chavara Police Station demanded Rs 2,000 on 21 April 2009 and accepted it on 24 April 2009 in a vigilance trap, being caught red-handed. The Enquiry Commissioner and Special Judge, Thiruvananthapuram convicted him under Sections 7 and 13(1)(d) read with 13(2) of the PC Act 1988. The Kerala High Court rejected defences on sanction validity, witness contradictions and the decoy evidence, holding the ingredients proved beyond reasonable doubt with PW1 corroborated by the decoy witness and vigilance officials. The appeal was allowed in part: the conviction was confirmed but the sentence was reduced to the statutory minimum of six months RI with Rs 5,000 fine and one year RI with Rs 10,000 fine, concurrent.
