Conviction
ConcludedThe trial court convicted the accused police personnel, as recorded in the Delhi High Court judgment.
The Delhi High Court dismissed the appeal of Delhi Police Sub-Inspector of PS Ashok Vihar and sustained his Tis Hazari conviction for demanding and accepting a Rs.2,000 bribe in Crime No.204/96, caught in a CBI trap on 23 April 1996. The court relied on the independent witness account of marked currency falling from upstairs and the pink phenolphthalein hand-wash test, holding there was no material to doubt the prosecution case. It held the complainant's other complaints were no ground to disbelieve him and that investigation by an unauthorised officer did not vitiate the trial absent prejudice. The appellant died on 2 October 2022 so the substantive sentence (6 months plus 1 year SI with fines) stands abated under Section 394(2) CrPC, but the conviction was upheld on merits with fine surviving. Matters not addressed in the cited judgment text are not recorded here.
