Amritsar Man vs State of Punjab and Others

The Punjab and Haryana High Court awarded Rs 10 lakh to Bhupinder Kaur, widow of an Amritsar man @ an Amritsar man, picked up on 3 March 2011 by SSOC officers, held in illegal custody before remand, and found hanged in the Joint Interrogation Cell on 14 March 2011. Though medical and magisterial inquiries found suicide, the Court held police duty-bound for his safety, found dereliction already punished departmentally, and noted custody-period injuries pointing to torture. It directed payment within two months and dismissed the CBI-probe plea. Matters not addressed in the cited judgment text are not recorded here.
