ConcludedThe Punjab and Haryana High Court recorded adverse findings against police personnel and ordered Rs 500,000.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court (Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain) awarded Rs 5 lakh to chemist a Bhikhi man, who spent 5 months and 10 days in custody in a concocted NDPS case (FIR No. 60/2013, PS Bhikhi). The Court found the police propounded two parallel stories, shifting the recovery of intoxicant tablets from his shop to a road in village Matti to strengthen the case, a fabrication unearthed only because an SIT was constituted; the FIR was later cancelled. Holding this a sample of police highhandedness, the Court granted public-law compensation following Rini Johar, payable by Punjab within a month with liberty to recover from the erring officials, who had already been suspended and punished with forfeiture of two years' service.
